Three recent bills aimed at reducing benefits for those receiving both Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits and Unemployment Insurance (UI) were fortunately defeated. While this is a victory for SSDI and UI recipients, this also acts as a reminder to always be vigilant about legislation that threatens SSDI and for you to contact your elected officials.
As the 2016 election looms closer, SSDI will be a hot-button issue that will play out in the political arena. Action must be taken by Congress before 2016 to ensure that SSDI remains solvent for all beneficiaries. As someone with a personal stake in this issue, we encourage you to contact your elected officials and make sure your voice is heard. Urge them to vote NO on any bill that aims to cut SSDI benefits and to vote for a reallocation of funds to the SSDI trust fund.
