Recently, President Obama signed a new budget into law that avoids the projected 20 percent cut to the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program in 2016. A percentage of the current FICA taxes were reallocated to the SSDI trust fund to prevent any shortfalls next year. The new budget guarantees that SSDI will be able to pay recipients in full until 2022.

Though this temporary fix is a relief to current SSDI recipients, there needs to be a long-term solution to prevent future shortfalls. The current plan does not go far enough to ensure that Americans who are currently paying into SSDI will be able to receive it should they become disabled.

Contact your elected officials to let them know that a long-term solution is needed so SSDI can operate properly and assist America’s most vulnerable: https://www.disabilityjustice.com/political-action/.
