Filing for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is a long process that can take more than a year, but can be expedited for those with certain severe medical conditions.
Social Security’s Compassionate Allowances initiative identified more than 200 medical conditions that clearly meet the severity qualifications for SSDI. It helps those who are obviously disabled receive benefits within weeks rather than months.
Ovarian cancer, early-onset Alzheimer’s, and malignant Multiple Sclerosis are just some of the conditions recognized by the Compassionate Allowances initiative. See the full list here.
